StreetSpace 2019

Household led a discussion about Public Art, made maps and worked with the participants of the StreetSpace workshops on Monday 17th and Tuesday 18th June 2019 at Belfast City Hall to create a draft Public Art manifesto. The focus of the 2019 workshops was the Clifton Gateway (Donegall Street, Clifton Street and Crumlin Road) in North Belfast.

StreetSpace students explored the complexity of this area and investigate the potential of these streets to provide fair, accessible and diverse places for people – important learning that can be applied in other Belfast city neighbourhoods like Sailortown.

StreetSpace is a research and teaching project in the School of Architecture at Queen's University Belfast. StreetSpace works in collaboration with academia, government and local communities to analyse streets and fulfil their potential to be people-centred, accessible and inclusive public places. The project investigates the significance of everyday streets through their urban form, histories and experiences. It establishes links with other disciplines and seeks to enable the dialogue between academia, policy and the public thorough the organisation of local workshops, symposia and exhibitions.

Maps produced by the workshop participants were exhibited at PLACE. More information about StreetSpace 2019 can be found here.
