The Sound We Longed For

Dina Mimi

Riddel’s Warehouse, Belfast City Centre

Dina Mimi is a Palestinian artist who will be presenting The Sound We Longed For, a new textile and sound installation at the atmospheric Riddel's Warehouse in Belfast. Developed during her time in the city, the work draws on her experiences wandering through Belfast and engaging with the narratives of men and women who had been incarcerated.

Her research delves into sonic and sensory memory, exploring how captivity impacts the human body. Dina was particularly intrigued by the sensory experiences of imprisonment, posing questions such as: What sounds did you long for? What did you hear and smell? Through these inquiries, she seeks to capture these fading memories through the senses.

The Sound We Longed For is part of the Belfast 2024 celebrations and is generously supported by Belfast City Council and British Council. It is made possible through the support of Hearth NI.
