Lament
Zuza Golińska
Bank of Ireland
For Lament, Polish artist Zuza Golińska explores the deep emotional connection we can have to architecture. During her time in Belfast, the artist was drawn to the transitional states of many of the historic buildings in the city centre and ideas surrounding the public monument. In this artwork, she wanted to create and capture a moment to mark the passing of time through song and has researched the form of the traditional lament as a mode for doing so. To create Lament, Zuza is collaborating with choir master Jack Wilson and members from the St Anne’s Cathedral Choir to perform a lament to the Bank of Ireland Art Deco-style building on Royal Avenue as it awaits a multi-million pound renovation to become the Belfast Stories visitor attraction.
Lament is part of the Belfast 2024 celebrations and is generously supported by Belfast City Council and British Council. It is made possible through the support of Belfast Cathedral Choir. With special thanks to Jack Wilson and the Belfast City Council Estates team.
