Sighle Bhreathnach-Cashell is an artist and curator specialising in interactive installation. She holds an MFA from the Piet Zwart Institute in Rotterdam and completed her BA in Environmental Art at the Glasgow School of Art. She has both organised and created work for large scale theatrical art events including ‘PROCEDURE’(Belfast) and ‘GAMES NIGHT!’ (Glasgow). From 2008-2009 she co-curated ‘residence’, a rolling program of artist residencies, exhibitions and outreach work in domestic spaces in Belfast, and previously worked as co-director and Studio Manager at Platform Arts, Belfast.
Eoin Dara is a curator based in Belfast and Dundee. He was recently appointed Head of Exhibitions at Dundee Contemporary Arts (DCA). In his previous position as Curator at the MAC Belfast, Eoin has staged major exhibition projects such as Felix Gonzalez-Torres: This Place, the largest presentation of the artist’s work in Ireland to date. He has also worked on commissioning projects from artists such as Barbara Knezevic, Liam Crichton, Mariah Garnett, Stuart Brisley, Kara Walker and Johanna Billing, as well as delivered exhibitions of work by David Hockney, Peter Doig, Andy Warhol, Sophie Calle and Robert Therrien.
A former student of University of Edinburgh, Eoin studied Art History and English Literature and is an alumnus of the Independent Curators International Curatorial Intensive programme. He was previously a director of Catalyst Arts, and continues to work independently as one fifth of the Household curatorial collective, organising projects that encourage people to reconsider how they view and interact with art in city spaces. He has delivered lectures, talks, and contributed to panel discussions at the invitation of institutions such as Tate, University of Ulster, Manchester School of Art, Liverpool John Moores University, and the Irish Museum of Modern Art, and regularly organises public programmes of talks, performances, and screenings developing discourse around contemporary curatorial and artistic practice.
Ciara Hickey was recently appointed Adult Programmes Producer at Hillsborough Castle. In her previous role as Curator of Belfast Exposed Photography she curated and managed numerous gallery exhibitions and public programmes, including the Belfast Exposed Futures programme, which supports photographers working in Northern Ireland by developing and promoting their work internationally. Recent exhibitions/commissions include Welcome to Belfast (Martin Parr), and Beyond Maps & Atlases (Bertien van Manen).
She writes regularly on art and photography, and previously designed the public programmes at Ormeau Baths Gallery. In 2013 Ciara completed a Masters at NCAD, Dublin entitled ‘Art in the Contemporary World’, where one of her key areas of research was the domestic space as a site in which to make and experience art. Before co-founding Household Collective she co-curated Space Delawab in her home in Belfast from 2008-2010.
Ciara sits on the board of the Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival and writes regularly on art. She has produced catalogue essays for the Naughton Gallery, Millennium Court Arts Centre, Ormeau Baths Gallery, University of Ulster and has contributed to journals such as Collected, Visual Arts Newsletter and Paper Visual Arts.
Alissa Kleist is a curator based in Belfast and Derry. She is the Curator (Exhibitions) at CCA Derry~Londonderry, where she has worked on commissioning and delivering exhibitions and new projects with artists such as Zach Blas, Sarah Browne, Nathan Coley, Benedict Drew, Seamus Harahan, Rana Hamadeh, Ryan Gander, Pakui Hardware, Jaakko Pallasvuo, Ciara Phillips, Roee Rosen, Andrew Norman Wilson, and many others.
Alissa was a co-director of Catalyst Arts (Belfast) from 2011 to 2013, where she ran the organisation and worked with local practitioners and international artists such as Phil Collins, Sean Lynch, and Artur Zmijewski. At Catalyst, she curated exhibitions such as In A Certain Light (2013) at Lismore Castle; P.O.V. (points of view)(2013) at Monstertruck Dublin; FIX International Performance Arts Festival (2013); Fata Morgana (2012), and delivered projects in a variety of contexts. She is a founding member of the PRIME collective, and from 2013 to 2015 she worked for the contemporary photography magazine Source Photographic Review.
She regularly writes for a number of publications, including VAN, Circa Online and Paper Visual. She also works as an independent curator and in this capacity has curated projects in galleries such as PS2, Golden Thread, and MCAC Portadown. In 2013/14, she was the recipient of the Arts Council of Northern Ireland ACES award for Curatorial Practice. She holds an MFA from Ulster University and has given talks and lectures at the invitation of institutions and organisations such as the University of Ulster, National College of Art and Design, Limerick School of Art and Design, Queen’s University, Belfast City Council, the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, Visual Artists Ireland, Plus Tate, and IKT.
Kim McAleese is a curator based in Belfast and Birmingham. She is currently working as Programme Director of Grand Union, a gallery space and artists’ studios in the Birmingham, where she has worked with artists such as Prem Sahib, Emma Hart, Alice Theobald, and Fay Nicolson.
Previously, she was co-director of Catalyst Arts from 2009–2011; a curatorial consultant at the Belfast Festival at Queen’s in 2012; and Curator for 14-18NOW Northern Ireland, a public artwork commission by Bob & Roberta Smith. She is co-founder of the domestic visual arts space, Satis House.
She has completed Curatorlab at Konstfack, a masters programme for professionals in Stockholm. Previous to this she was the first recipient of the Arts Council of Northern Ireland Career Enhancement Scheme for Curatorial Practice, and was one of the participants in the first European Independent Curators International Curatorial Intensive in 2013.
